Fifty years on K.R. Road

Vensons has been selling coffee in Davangere since 1975. The badge on our signboard reads with a legacy of 50 years of trust, which is a large claim to print on a wall, and one we would rather earn again every morning than lean on.

What stays the same

The blend. The grind. The habit of roasting in small enough batches that a bad one can be thrown away rather than sold.

Coffee is not a complicated business, but it is an unforgiving one. A shop that serves one indifferent cup loses a customer who has been coming for twenty years, and the customer is right to go. That is the whole discipline.

What has changed

Almost everything else. Packaging, machinery, the way people carry coffee home, how they hear about a shop opening. The pack our coffee goes into now has a nutrition panel, a barcode and a QR code on it — none of which existed when we started.

What has not changed is the reason someone walks in: they want a cup of filter coffee that tastes like the one they remember.

Fifty years, and a second shop

This September we open a second outlet on Taluk Office Road. It is the first time in fifty years that there has been more than one Vensons counter in Davangere.

Same coffee. One more door.
